Appian

Senior Manager, Marketing Operations

March 2023 - December 2024

I led the marketing operations team for Appian, an enterprise process management software company. In this role, I set company-wide standards for marketing technology tools and data, provide executive support for the technical underpinnings of business decisions, and provide training and enablement across our digital toolchain including analytics, marketing automation, content management, CRM, webinar, and related tools. Key projects included completing a rewrite of our lead routing system, a major overhaul of lead upload process, revised lead scoring, and integrating several external tools into our lead management workflow.

Senior Technical Manager, Digital Activation

August 2022 - March 2023

I led technical strategy and implementation for Appian’s marketing campaigns groups. In this role, I focused largely on data enablement to help campaign owners make data-driven decisions and optimize programs. I also significantly reduced technical debt that allowed us to increase data quality from a number of key marketing programs.

Red Hat

Manager, Product Management

June 2021 - June 2022

I directed software development and product management for a collection of some of Red Hat’s largest web publications: Opensource.com, the Enterprisers Project, Enable Sysadmin, and Enable Architect, collectively representing over 20 million unique visitors a year.

In this role, I led strategy and execution of our entire digital stack, including our content management system, analytics, design and UX, personalization and testing, infrastructure, security, accessibility, performance, and integrations with the rest of our marketing operations technologies.

I led a major upgrade and migration effort that reduced our annual infrastructure costs by six figures while delivering a faster and more modern technical base for our web properties.

Manager, Enable Sysadmin Program

March 2019 - June 2021

I co-founded, helped build and launch, and then managed Red Hat’s digital community for system administrators, Enable Sysadmin. After we officially launched in June 2019, my roles included serving as managing editor and people manager for the team responsible for our site’s content and community programs. During my time in this role, Enable Sysadmin grew to be the largest site section of www.redhat.com.

Technical Content Program Manager, Opensource.com

August 2015 - March 2019 (Converted to employee March 2016)

I built Opensource.com’s technical content program and the organic search engine optimization strategy that supported it, driving an average of 25% year over year traffic growth across an established web property. To achieve this growth, I focused on growing our contributor community by identifying and recruiting underrepresented people and groups working in open source to amplify their voices through our platform.

Cloud Technical Program Manager, Opensource.com

February 2014 - August 2015 (Full-time contract role)

I managed Red Hat’s organic content and community building strategy on Opensource.com for OpenStack and related open source cloud technologies. My focus was on building partnerships and relationships with the open source contributor communities behind these projects to drive high quality educational content for a broader audience. This work led Opensource.com to become the largest home on the web for community-generated open source cloud content and drove hundreds of thousands of visitors to the site through an organic search strategy.

Digital Marketing Specialist, Opensource.com

December 2013 - February 2014 (Full-time contract role)

I joined Red Hat on contract to execute a growth strategy for Opensource.com through external promotion efforts including managing our newsletter program, social media, syndication, and organic link building.

Letters & Maps

Technical Lead, Web Development

January 2013 - December 2013

I was a partner in a small digital marketing agency working on projects including website design, development, migration, maintenance, and upgrades. I worked primarily in Drupal and WordPress content management systems, and led development work in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. In addition to development, I was the primary system administrator for our client projects.

North Carolina State University

Graduate Teaching Assistant, Geospatial Analytics

August 2011 - December 2012

While in graduate school for geospatial information science, I assisted teaching a graduate-level course in advanced geospatial analytics for three consecutive terms. In addition to teaching, grading, and office hours support, I helped revise our course curriculum to keep current with the newest technologies for aspiring geospatial data analysts.

Weaver Street Market

Marketing Specialist

May 2008 - August 2011

I drove community outreach for a cooperative natural foods company with multiple retail and wholesale locations, planning and executing over 60 on-site community events a year, engaging in public speaking opportunities for the organization, serving as the company’s representative to local business groups, and acting as executive secretary and staff support to the board of directors. I also served as manager for our membership program, growing cooperative membership by over 1,000 households annually. I managed our endowed community grant fund and coordinated annual grant committee process.

I also ran many aspects of the organization’s digital marketing, including the design, writing, editing of materials, making regular updates to our web presence, and eventually leading both development and design of the restaurant unit’s website within a new content management system. I started the organization’s social media presence and in less than a year built it to be one of the largest followings of all cooperative groceries in the United States.
